英语新闻｜Qingdao builds a livable city
The eastern coastal city of Qingdao in Shandong province has been ramping up efforts to build a livable city with an improved environment for living, working and visiting, local media reported.
This year, Qingdao started a three-year campaign of urban renewal and urban construction, aiming to further improve urban functions, urban quality, and the living environment, as well as enhance citizens' sense of gain and happiness.
Efforts have been made to promote the reconstruction of old urban areas and old residential communities, upgrade municipal facilities, and accelerate the construction of parking facilities.
The city plans to complete the renovation of old residential communities built before 2000, complete the renovation of old factory areas and transform a number of large old blocks as well as a number of villages, according to local conditions. In the next three years, 1,108 old residential areas are expected to be rebuilt, benefiting 300,000 households.
This year, Qingdao plans to renovate 318 old residential areas, benefiting 92,000 households. So far, all 318 projects have been started.
Qingdao plans to strengthen the development of heating, gas, sanitation and water utilities, and improve the quality of daily services. It will continuously enhance the urban comprehensive carrying capacity throughout three years of efforts.
The construction of municipal roads including urban expressways and trunk roads are also expected be accelerated, as well as the construction of pedestrian crossings at important nodes in urban areas. In the coming three years, 20 new pedestrian crossing facilities are expected to be built.
In the coming three years, Qingdao plans to promote the construction of 120 public parking lots and 11 bus stations, which can add more than 70,000 parking berths.
